The School Resource Officer (SRO) is
often a child’s
first contact with regard to providing information, facts and possible
evidence of their involvement or observation of an incident or criminal
violation.
It is imperative that the SRO be aware of Child
Interview techniques and procedures. It is important that the
SRO
does not influence the child in a negative manner which could result in
obtaining tainted, twisted or distorted information.
The
course of instruction will provide the student with information
extraction techniques for various child age groups. The
instruction will provide the student with the information required to
be able to conduct successful interviews and interrogations by
utilizing correct question formulation, question types and enable the
SRO to handle any child involved crime, (theft, criminal and sexual
assaults, etc).
